Course Aim

To improve students critical thinking, reasoning, research and listening skills through debate and public speaking.  The course will introduce students to systematic strategies that will help them to form arguments, synthesize information from a variety of sources to draw conclusions and present them coherently.

1 Construct and verbally present persuasive arguments in a reasoned and coherent manner through debate.
2 Critically analyze and evaluate evidence for and against arguments made on various topics to further develop critical thinking skills.
3 Effectively research a variety of topics to construct an argument and counter-argument.
4 Listen critically and simultaneously take notes for the purpose of forming and refuting arguments.
5 Work independently and in a small team to research and create logical arguments and counter-arguments.
