Valid From:: 2026/2027 Sem 2
Credits:: 15
Owner: School of Engineering
Assessment Method: Achievement
Course Aim

The course will introduce students to all the stages of the CAD/CAM process and manufacturing process with CNC machines. On successful completion of this course, students will be able to illustrate the key principles of manufacturing using a CAD/CAM system; produce 3D Solid models of a component using CAD software that is suitable for transfer into a CAM system; use CAM software to generate manufacturing simulations of an element and produce a dimensionally accurate component on a CNC machine using a CAD/CAM system.

CILO
On Completion of this course, the learner will be able to
# Learning Outcome Description
1 Demonstrate advanced knowledge and understanding of CAD/CAM systems in manufacturing.
2 Apply the advanced knowledge to write NC part program by interpreting part model/ part drawings of a component to generate manufacturing simulations of a component using CAM package.
3 Use advanced level and some specialist skills to design an industrial component using Computer Aided Manufacturing technology through the Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine tools.
