Course Aim

The aim of this course is to provide engineering students with an in-depth understanding of system reliability modelling techniques, condition monitoring and safety assessment to explore and analyze the consequences of failures to enhance equipment functionality of engineering systems. The course seeks to develop the students’ technical proficiency and analytical skills in assessing system reliability and safety systems and provide insights into design, performance, and environmental impacts.

1 Demonstrate critical knowledge of the principles of basic terminology, resources, past, present challenges, and future needs of reliability and safety concepts in engineering systems.
2 Critically analyze various reliability block diagrams, fault tree analysis, and condition monitoring techniques for failure assessment of maintenance systems.
3 Communicate in-depth knowledge of various reliability modelling techniques and safety assessment to a range of audiences, using appropriate technical language, visual aids, and written reports to convey complex engineering concepts and solutions effectively.
