Course Aim

This course, in conjunction with EL6003 English Skills A,  will enable learners to apply targeted English language skills and knowledge to recognise and employ effective summarising and synthesising techniques to meet the communication requirements of their wider academic studies and further the development of transferable work-ready skills.

1 Select and prioritise the main ideas of a text through critical analysis.
2 Interpret and evaluate a variety of graphics.
3 Summarise effectively by analysing main points/key information and employing paraphrasing skills.
4 Synthesise related information from different sources by recognising key information.
5 Apply knowledge and analyse use of CEFR B2 level grammar and vocabulary in a workplace-related context.
