To introduce students to the socio-economic significance of transport in the context of globalisation
To be able to identify the geographical and technological constraints in planning for and conducting international transport
To raise student awareness of how places are connected though transport networks of different types at different scales

1 Demonstrate a detailed knowledge of the relationship between strategic location, transport routes and the international flows of goods and people
2 Plot the location of major sea and air transport hubs (based on volume of traffic on a map of the world) using any common map projection
3 Discuss the globally transforming transport technologies and energy sources through historical time
4 Discuss the major constraints to trade which impact on the Gulf states
5 Discuss how the interaction between transport and information technology leads to globalisation
