To introduce and apply the  principles  of conservation of mass and energy  to determine the material and energy requirements of a chemical process

On Completion of this course, the learner will be able to

1 Apply the concepts of conservation of mass and energy to calculate the material and energy requirements of a process for a non-reacting system
2 Estimate the extent of reaction in material balances for systems involving chemical reactions
3 Demonstrate advanced knowledge of recycle and bypass streams to perform material balances for a non-reacting system
4 Apply the concept of energy to calculate energy requirement of a process for a reacting system
5 Work individually or in teams to evaluate theoretical and excess air requirement for a combustion process using flue gas analysis
