Course Aim

This unit aims to provide engineering students with advanced knowledge and specialized skills in the geotechnical design process, appropriate methods of analysis for various types of settlement caused by applied loads, immediate settlement in cohesive and granular soils, and bearing capacity calculations, and appropriate national codes and standards in geotechnical design in a fully immersive PBL environment.

1 Calculate the deformation due to surface loading of a varied ground condition.
2 Investigate the bearing capacity of shallow foundations using different parameters and governing codes.
3 Evaluate the bearing capacity of pile foundations according to governing codes.
4 Write a report on the analysis and evaluation of a given project.
