Course Aim

This course aims to provide learners advanced-level and some specialist-level skills on transportation systems, highway planning, design, construction, drainage and maintenance. Learners will learn different transportation systems such as, but not limited to, highways, tunnels, bridges, railways and air transportation system. Learners will apply theories, principles and concepts on highway planning, design, construction, drainage and maintenance through designs, drawings and calculations. As learners analyse and evaluate data and formulate conclusions, their critical thinking skill is enhanced. As learners work independently on their design, calculation and other tasks, their sense of responsibility is improved.

1 Evaluate the types of transportation systems
2 Design horizontal and vertical alignments for a new highway project
3 Evaluate pavement construction and earthworks for a new highway, supported by details and calculations
4 Develop the final detailed design requirements for highway construction.

  • Pre Requisite: should have finished 90 Credits of Level 6 and 30 Credits of Level 7
