Assessment Method: Achievement
Course Aim

This course aims to provide learners advanced-level and some specialist-level skills on soil sampling, soil tests, soil physical properties, geotechnical design parameters, soil grading and effective stress. Students will learn the different soil sampling techniques and processes. They will learn different soil tests, and they will perform actual selected soil tests. They will learn how to analyse and evaluate data from soil tests. They will learn how to evaluate, through calculations and graphs, soil properties, including the effect of groundwater. As learners analyse and evaluate data, their critical thinking skills will be improved. Moreover, as they perform soil tests in groups, their teamwork skills, as well as their sense of responsibility for their own work and the work of their colleagues, will be enhanced.
