Qualification Completion Requirements Criteria
|
Awarded where candidates have met all of the requirements below:
Successful completion of all courses listed in Schedule A;
Successful completion of designated faculty electives;
One National Requirements – Arabic course;
The two National Requirements courses;
Completion of courses to accumulate a minimum of 480 credits;
Achieve the Bahrain Polytechnic General Qualification Requirements as found in Policy A/AB/004, Naming and Awarding Qualifications.

Programme Overview*
|
BSc in Financial Technology is designed to equip students with a comprehensive knowledge in the digital transformation of financial products, services, and operations. In addition, the qualification seeks to provide students opportunities to develop their ability to apply that knowledge to market needs and trends. Financial Technology (FinTech) programme consists of 8 semesters, 480 credits, as per NQF requirements, as a stand-alone degree from the first semester, covering a variety of general Business and ICT courses as well as courses that relate to the specialization such as blockchain and cryptocurrency.
The degree programme is delivered in a student-centered learning environment, in which students will be given case studies and an independent industry-based project or practicum/internship, which will include analysis and problem-solving through simulations and similar activities.
The degree programme encompasses an initial four semesters of full-time academic study in the broad Business, ICT, banking, and finance disciplines, facilitating the efficient delivery of skills and knowledge, at NQF levels 5, 6 and 7, followed by four full-time academic semesters of specialist study including relevant courses and an industry project, specifically designed for the programme, at NQF levels 7 and 8. In addition to traditional finance coursework, the programme emphasizes the theories and evolution of FinTech, as well as new financial innovations such as AI, Blockchain, Cybersecurity, Cryptocurrencies, Cloud Computing, Machine Learning, IoT, Crowd Funding, and Reg-tech. It broadens the scope of the School of Business and ICT, filling a market void where there is not any existing Bachelor’s Degree in Financial Technology available locally.

Entry and Selection*

General entry requirements such as secondary school achievements, English and Mathematics are described in the Student Admission Policy A/AB/010. Specific entry requirements for this qualification, beyond those described in the Student Admission Policy are as follows:

Applicants who do not meet all of the entry criteria above may be considered for special or provisional entry.

Selection and Criteria and Process*

Where there are more applicants who meet the programme entry criteria than can be accepted, the following shall be used:
Selection Criteria:
- Preference will be given to students who have successfully completed the Foundation programme at Bahrain Polytechnic and have clearly demonstrated an aptitude for Business and a commitment to their study.
- Results from programme entry tests will be used to select students with the highest likelihood of successfully completing the degree programme.
Selection Process:
- Applicants may be required to attend an interview.
- Consideration of work experience and prior educational achievement may also be used.

The programme's aim is to provide students with a thorough understanding of the digital transformation of financial products, services, and operations, as well as the ability to apply that understanding to market demands and trends. The programme provides students with the practical knowledge and abilities in financial technology, making them attractive to potential employers in the Bahraini workplace.
The programme is suitable for students who are inspired to study and work in the field of Financial Technology. Graduates can work for traditional financial services companies that require staff with technical skill sets to improve existing business practices or develop new processes related to technological innovations. This programme aims at fulfilling part of the EDB's vision to push forth Bahrain as a FinTech Hub by preparing students to become Financial Technology professionals, equipped with practical knowledge and skills in this growing field.

In Bahrain, most employment opportunities for FinTech graduates will come from the private sector, public sector, as well as parts of the semi-government sector undergoing transformation, and SME’s and family businesses that are transitioning to more corporate business models. BSc in Financial Technology (FinTech) is a standalone degree program from the first semester. This means that no exit qualification will be offered at this stage, and a students will be eligible for a degree qualification only after successfully completing all the requirements of the four-year program.
