Qualification Completion Requirements Criteria

Awarded where candidates have met all of the requirements below:

Successful completion of all, or exemption from courses listed as Schedule A

Completion of courses to accumulate 240 credits from Bahrain Polytechnic Qualification.

Achieve the Bahrain Polytechnic General Qualification Requirements as found in Policy A/AB/004, Naming and Awarding Qualifications.

Programme Overview*
|
The Diploma in Interactive Design facilitates a programme of study which is practical and highly interactive, having its foundations in the digital design industry of today. The programme's foundation will be based on design principles and theories, including layout principles, typography and photography. Then courses will focus on prominent specialised digital outputs, such as videography, web design, animation, 3D design and content creation. The programme is based on a studio environment setting with project based briefs utilising a student centered approach to teaching and learning.

Entry and Selection*
|
As the Diploma qualification is a sub-set of the Bachelor of Visual Design, the same criteria for selection be used. This inlcudes the submission of the portfolio based on the requirements on the Polytechnic's website, as well as successfully passing the interview. General entry requirements such as secondary school achievements, English and Mathematics are described in the Student Admission Policy A/AB/010. Specific entry requirements for this qualification, beyond those described in the Student Admission Policy are as follows:

Academic

Applicants are required to submit a portfolio which includes a variety of original, developmental and finished works. As a guideline 10 to 20 original pieces of work are required. A portfolio may be a collection of electronic files, a folder, notebook or ring binder; containing a collection of drawings, sketches, photographs, slides, or any other representation of the individual’s artistic ability, sensitivities, visual awareness and interests.

Upon review of the portfolios, sucessfull applicants will be invited to attend an interview. By passing the interview students will be able to enter the programme.

Student who pass GS5301 Introduction to Visual Communication with 70% or above, will be exempt from submitting the portfolio and interview process.

Selection Criteria

Motivation of the applicant: those who have made a genuine attempt to understand what Visual Design is and what designers do and have investigated career options

Maturity of the applicant: the ability of the student to relate realistically to her/his world and to apply discipline to study, evidenced in previous experience and shown in portfolio

Communication and interpersonal skills of the applicant: the potential of the student to clearly interact with staff and users in the working environment.

Creative Ability: shows evidence of an active creative imagination, has good craftsmanship skills, portfolio shows an understanding of composition and subject matter.

Applicants who meet the Entry requirements may be required to attend an interview.

Where the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of places available, preference will be given to applicants who show the greatest promise of success as determined by the selection criteria above.

Major Selection Criteria*
|
The entry requirements include successfully passing the portfolio requirements followed by the interview as well as adhering to the general requirements set by the Polytechnic which are described in the Student Admission Policy A/AB/010.

Qualification Aim*
|
The Diploma in Interactive Design aims to address the new requirements in the field of interactive design that are required by the local and global design industries with the surge and emphasis on digital media in the past years. The programme aims to provide students with the ability to develop and manage both creative and technical strategies in the fields of graphic design, motion graphics, web design. The diploma emphasises on interactive technologies and experiences. Apart from the technical skills, the diploma also focuses on the creative and critical approach to interactive design.
